Who Won the Iraq War?
Six months before the invasion of Iraq, Taki Theodoracopulos, Scott McConnell and this writer launched a new magazine, The American Conservative . Goal: Convince our countrymen that invading Iraq would be imperial folly. And so it came to pass. Some 72 percent of Americans said in a recent CBS poll that it was not worth the price in U.S. war dead.

Conspiracy Theory: US Military Caused Haiti Quake

Austrian scientist Claudia von Werlhof, right, has accused the USA of being behind the Haitian earthquake in January. Her boss slams the theory of the Innsbruck-based professor.
Werlhof said that machines at a military research center in Alaska used to detect deposits of crude oil by causing artificial earthquakes had intentionally been set off to cause the Haitian earthquake and enable the USA to send 10,000 soldiers into the country.
Ferdinand Karlhofer, left, the head of the Innsbruck Political Science Institute where von Werlhof works, has slammed her comments. He said such conspiracy theory had no scientific basis and her claim would damage the reputation of the Institute abroad.
